Fitna

As many may likely be aware, Dutch politician Geert Wilders’ short film, Fitna, which juxtaposes verses from the Qur’an and snips of hate speech and violent acts from radical Muslims, was posted on LiveLeak for only four days before they were forced to remove it due to “threats” they received. I am not necessarily endorsing this movie as an accurate representation of Islam as a whole, as indeed the entire premise, that moderate Muslims need to take the initiative in changing their religion into the vessel of peace they claim it to be, seems to be entirely lost until the last few minutes, but regardless, it is undeniable that it presents an accurate characterization of the wicked acts perpetrated against humanity by the extremist types. We cannot continue make clear the backwardness of extremist Islam and then shrink from our statements and relinquish our freedom of speech when we gets scared. If we continue to do so, we will eventually give it away for good. It is in solidarity and in the spirit of free speech that I repost the film Fitna below, and ask others to do the same.

Edit: I should note that for me this is mostly a free speech issue. There are many on different sides claiming different things about this film. Some claim that it uses already tried misrepresentation of the Qur’an, failing to translate accurately, others, such as commenter #3 on this post, respond angrily, citing the thousands that radical Islam has killed. That fact, there is no denying. We can dispute the method of delivery all we want, claiming it to be amateur or unoriginal (something I largely agree with), but the fact that LiveLeak was forced to pull it after only a matter of days proves the entire point. Radical Islam is seeking to suppress freedom of speech, and it must be opposed

Edit #2: A quick look at some of Mr Wilders’ statements indicate that he is not exactly my kind of guy. He may oppose radical Islam and consider himself a proponent of free speech, yet he advocates banning the Qur’an in the Netherlands. How hypocritical so many people in this world are. I don’t like a lot of what is in the Qur’an, but I will defend its right to be printed and read, just as I defend Mr Wilders’ right to have his film seen.

Go ahead and circulate these videos and movies, do your best really. It makes no difference to Islam but it makes a difference to you, if you knew.

My advice to you is, as a fellow human being, to pick up a copy of the Quran (English translation) once. I mean, I’d be curious too… why the disparity between the acts of a hanful Muslims, compared to the rest of the Muslim population? Complete peace, internal and external, is Islam’s aim - contrast that with the claims of the alleged terrorists. The Quran clears up the misunderstanding - if only Muslims would adhere to it as well!

A “hanful muslims” huh? That handful must have a lot frequent flyer miles to murder so many innocent people in so many different countries. Instead of condemning the Fitna film, why don’t you do something constructive like condemning radical muslims who murder innocent people all over the world each and every day. I used to think there was such a thing as a “moderate” muslim but all the comments you find justify terrorists and refuse to condemn radical muslims — who sure as hell aren’t some little “hanful” And as far as the koran preaching peace, you’re not fooling anyone. It’s filled with bloody murder just like the radical muslims and muslim leaders in muslim countries preach each day. Wake up and get out of your death cult.

I agree for the most part with “Watch…” above. Ameera, I appreciate the fact that you interpret your religion as a peaceful one. I hope that by that you also mean that no Muslim (or Christian, or Jew, or Hindu, etc. ad nauseum) should be able to tell me what to do based on whether or not it offends their god our not. We live in a material world, and whatever you believe about anything beyond that, your first obligation should be not to harm other individuals who live in this world, and to condemn those who do such harm. Fitna does no harm to any Muslims. It criticizes the extremists you yourself say are wrong and asks people like you to stand up and reject them. Please do, for the sake of the 2974 innocent Americans who lost their lives on September 11th 2001, the 191 human beings who lost their lives on March 11th 2004 in Madrid, the 52 who died in London on July 5th 2005, and countless thousand more, all over the world, victims of their own violent religion.
